I use it all the time. If you go into Walmart with WiFi they have certain sites blocked. If you go to anywhere that has open WiFi then you’ll want it on all the time. I’m in a hotel atm and they have open WiFi and block even basic sites via DNS. VPN defeats the bullshit.
Of course you should. Especially if you want to avoid your phone company recording what you are doing.
As for security, it makes no difference as mobile data standards use encryption by default to the base station. If your service provider is of concern though that would be a good reason to use it.
Yes, go ahead and use it. It won’t make a difference as far as your data goes, and mobile service providers are known to throttle more pervasively and sell your data. A VPN can thwart both of those.
Using a VPN on your cellphone (WiFi or Cellular) always has benefits. At the very least your stuff is encrypted from your cellular Internet Service Provider like Verizon Wireless or hotspot provider like Starbucks.
In terms of identity theft and data theft protection, your cellular signal is actually encrypted IF your WiFi is off. Your main risk of not using a VPN over cellular data is with advertisers tracking your web activity and surveillance by ISPs trying to sell that data to more advertisers.
If you are using WiFi and connected to an unknown network the only way to protect yourself would be a VPN on all of your devices, not just the iPhone.
I use my home VPN (on dd-wrt) with my android phone all the time, and it lets me access any file on any computer connected to my home network. Probably not as easy to do on an iphone, but I’m not sure.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to properly integrate my iPhone into the mix with a vpn running on dd-wrt router. I’m assuming the WiFi is covered on the iOS, but what about the cell connection? I do have the vpn apps/client to use when I’m not at home…..but unless I airplane mode it up, how does one cover LTE under vpn if they’re connected to their home vpn router? I’m assuming there isn’t a workaround except either use your vpn app in addition (which might run into issues if you’re already connected st the router level as well), or turn off lte?
Doesn’t that depend on what you are doing that you don’t want to be traced? WTF are you up to?
