If a hacker can access your computer, a VPN isn’t going to do anything to stop that. VPNs are not firewalls, or any form of malware-prevention software. You don’t suddenly become invulnerable when you’re actively connected to a VPN. You need understand the difference between programs that lock down your system (firewalls, antivirus etc.) and those that obfuscate your IP address.
I’m still in there reading all your stuff, cleaning out your bank accounts, putting misspellings in all your documents and changing all your porn to really shitty anime. Nothing you can do about it;)
Depending on your software it could have an internet kill switch that blocks connections until it gets reattached to the service.
The VPN doesn’t protect you from a hacker accessing your computer. If your firewall has a vulnerability, the hacker will be able to access your computer regardless of whether or not your VPN is on. The good news is that if your computer is updated regularly and your firewall is turned on, there is a very low likelihood of someone accessing your computer via WiFi.
A VPN does protect you from a hacker intercepting your internet traffic while connected to WiFi and inserting malicious code. You can avoid this by simply waiting to browse the web until your VPN is up and running.
You need to research what VPN does.
i usually keep always wifi and PIA online on android so there wont be any pauses with vpn. once your VPN is connected outside of system hacker is powerless since nobody can send you data from their decive. if you installed rat/malware then it doesnt matter if youre on vpn or not. you are better by just learning habit of waiting vpn to kick in before browsing.
Okay to rephrase this. If I connect to public WiFi without a VPN for 20 seconds but some hacker is monitoring the network. Would I be safe if I turn on the vpn a few seconds later while my phone was mostly ideal?
Get a VPN that has a kill switch or offers support for built-in VPN technology.
A kill switch will disable your computer from accessing the internet until it has restored a secure connection with the provider’s network. This is typically done through your providers software and will never be 100% perfect.
Most computers and smartphones have VPN technology built in. If you want the safest possible environment a VPN can offer, I would recommend using the built-in VPN on any of your devices.
This bypasses any issues or bugs 3rd party software can present on any OS. More importantly, it will funnel your entire connection through the VPN *all* the time. While most reconnecting and on-startup connection processes are solid throughout the mainstream VPN providers the built-in route will guarantee you the most security with the least amount of human error (forgetting to turn your VPN on, reconnecting, etc).
If the hacker is connected to the same WiFi, it is possible.
