SFTP over VPN

Hi all,

Anyone know whether it would be possible to setup a VPN (and if so how/who) to only take effect when using my FTP client?

As in, the rest of the traffic from this PC should not go over the VPN, the only part that matters is the FTP (Which connects via an IP so there is no DNS lookup involved)

edit: I have two connections so the alternative would be to just have one be VPN’d, but I dont know of any way to force the PC to use a particular connection for a particular application, I don’t want to disturb them too much because I’ve managed to get Steam to download over both at once and I dont want to break that!

  1. In most VPN setups there are options for Split Tunneling. You can disable the VPN for any programs you wish although I don’t know why you would want to. It provides an encrypted tunnel for all your data. Best route to go for security and privacy.

  2. If you don’t mind me asking, what is the reason for doing this? There might be a different approach to this that might be easier if there’s an exact reason why you want to send this traffic over the tunnel. While FTP is unencrypted, SFTP is encrypted so you’d just be encrypting it twice?
