If you login to google, or any linked service (eg; youtube) then a VPN won’t do anything. Cookies and embedded scripts found elsewhere will also be tracking capable.
So look to browser addons to block third party trackers/scripts with something like noscript.
I would say no. I personally use duck duck go whenever I use vpns. Or there is another called searx. Searx is good but can be annoying because it is limited but it is good for privacy.
Google can still easily look at your search queries and know what you’re doing.
If you’re concerned about your privacy and or tracking, Google is simply *evil.* Google and privacy simply do not go together — period.
IMO the first step towards addressing any anonymity or privacy issues would be to stop using Google.
Wow. Ok thank you that makes sense.
If you’re logged into google, those searches will not only not be private and be used by Google, but by recording the IP of a VPN it could suggest you’re connected to other activity at that IP (though not conclusively since you’re sharing it with others).
Even when logged out, Google is going to keep thorough time stamp records, etc, so not as private as DuckDuckGo.
Personally I use Google anyway most of the time because I don’t search for nefarious shit.
Google doesn’t track you, just by what you type in. They have beacons on 90% of all internet pages, following you everywhere you go. If you at any point log in to a google service, they can link those sessions back to who you are.
A VPN is like a tunnel to another jurisdiction. It allows you to bypass government censorship for example. That said, anything you allow to go through this tunnel, can identify you just the same.
How to fix that? Use Ublock Origin + Disconnect + https Everywhere. It hardens your browser against tracking eyes coming though the tunnel. If you do that, google is just as save as other services since they can’t follow you around.
Not as long as you’re logged in using your VPN IP.
As long as you don’t search for things that can tie back to you then yes. If you sign into your Google account and do the search no. If you search “[email protected]” and then search then no. If you search from the same computer without a VPN, then you have some compromise. There are details your computer gives off that can narrow you down to like 100,000 different people.
