Do you use any other browsers for your work stuff?
I’m not aware of a chrome extension that can do what youre saying but you will probably need to connect to the openvpn server and use it as a http proxy. The problem with this is that Chrome doesn’t have it’s own setting for proxy so you’ll need to change it at the system level. This can be problematic for your work stuff if you need to access an intranet.
I got around this by using firefox since it has its own proxy setting that can be separate from the rest of the system and browsers.
Another hurdle you might run into is that your work network/computer may block the VPN connection. One way around this to run your server on port 443 (https) and it may let it through. Your ISP might not let you run a server on this port depending on their policy.
I used to do this exact same thing except I did it with an SSH server.
