Using IPv6 instead of IPv4 with carrier grade NAT may use less power on mobil units since you don’t have to send keep alive packets on short intervals to keep the port mapping active.
1) “One example is the mandatory inclusion of IP Security (IPsec) in the IPv6 protocol, which makes it fundamentally more secure than the older IPv4 standard.” ([Source](https://www.infosec.gov.hk/english/technical/files/ipv6s.pdf)). Worth noting is that IPsec has been made to support IPv4, but as part of the payload.
2) I think this depends on the site. Some may support only IPv4, other might support both (so I guess IPv6 is preferred then), while a third type of sites may only allow IPv6. This is likely why you have access to both IPv4 and IPv6.
If your devices and ISP mainly relay in IPV6 and your VPN only routes IPV4 traffic, you will be exposed due to IPV6 leaks. I personally have seen this before using OpenVPN on OpenWRT 15.05, when I do not enabled ipv6tun in my configuration, some sites were able to see my true IPV6.
Just use IPv4.
