  1. This is _completely unacceptable_ behavior. VPNs are perfectly legal, have many legal uses, and would have zero additional impact on their network.

The fact they wanted to use screen sharing software is also outrageous. “Let’s diagnose network connectivity errors over a network!” They should be perfectly capable of diagnosing network issues from their end. There’s absolutely no reason to browse through your installed programs. There’s no reason to view your browser history.

Also: An additional 2 mbps is _not_ worth this sort of fucked up behavior. And if these morons have difficulty maintaining 4 mbps and you’re dropping down to 0.5 mbps, then 2 mbps is objectively better.

  2. Did you ever get your speed issue resolved? I don’t think I saw you mention if your ISP helped you fix it or not. In any case you are entitled of course to receive the service you are paying for (while off VPN) and I would keep pressing until you get it.

You were certainly not treated right, and as I see it you have a couple options. Simply let the incident go or file a complaint. If you plan on filing a complaint, then make sure your ISP doesn’t have terms or service that prohibit VPN use. I doubt they do but I would check if you’re going to complain.

  3. What ISP? This is not acceptable behavior and those who can choose other ISP should be made aware so they can make an informed choice.

  4. How big of a company is this ISP?

Questioning what you use it for is ridiculous. If you’re doing something illegal they should call the cops. You should never hear from them on that matter in any circumstance.

Sounds to me like they want to play Google and siphon off your data to sell it to someone else, hence not being happy you use a VPN, or they are a small company and don’t know how to handle someone making a complaint against one of their users doing something bad through a VPN. Either way, it seems like they don’t know what they are doing.

Unless this VPN you’re using is some kind of scam and they are truly just looking out for you. Not too likely though.

  5. sounds just like your average indian scam boss. wants to sell your data. id try use even more vpn to fuck him up, i am pretty sure vpns are allowed everywhere but asia, and you could sue him for this.

  6. Call him, tell him if they do that again that you’ll sue.

There is so much shit that’s wrong here and I don’t fucking know where to start.

They literally broke a shit ton of laws.

  7. Dude, never install a screen software sharing and connect to your isp that he can spy on your computer. If it was TeamViewer he could have up/downloaded stuff, check the logs.

  8. Not that it’s any of their business, but if anyone asks about VPN use, tell them you use various VPNs for secure access to work systems that’s required by your employer or customers. Most companies of any significant size use VPNs to allow their employees to access their systems.

  9. switch your vpns settings from udp, to tcp via port 443. see if that improves your speed

  10. This is insane! You should *name* the ISP provider which will warn others of their business practice and keep users away from them.
