You can consider to setup VPN on VPS if you want unlimited accounts, cancellation anytime (for certain vps provider only), fixed ip for port forwarding, virtual cloud switch to connect all devices. But you need to know a lot of knowledge to setup a proper VPN on your server.
i don’t think running your own vpn is a viable solution(for an average home user).Better save your money and time and get a vpn service directly.

It depends on if you like tinkering a lot. Like, are you the type to buy an old car and fix it up?
Likewise, if you get your own VPS, it’s a similar thing. You need to set it up and if it doesn’t work, you need to figure out why it’s not working and fix it.
For some, this is a lot of fun, for others, it’s pure frustration.
If you do want to set up your own VPN on a very cheapo VPS box, it can be done for as little as $5 a year (yes, a year).
Otherwise, if you’re not the nerdy type, there are plenty of high quality services you can use for around $5 a month or maybe less.

I dont personally trust VPS runners to not to log, but i do trust vpns to do investigations on their servers if its really logges or not.
