1. No, the VPN software on your machine is encrypting all traffic, you don’t need to also do it at the router. Run a leak-test such as doileak.com to test your setup.

   The ethernet cable means you aren’t using Wi-Fi, so no one can listen to your traffic on Wi-Fi. But the traffic is encrypted (by the VPN) anyway. And if your Wi-Fi was using encryption too, that would be an extra level of protection. And if you’re using HTTPS web sites, that’s another level of encryption.

2. I would suggest that you do a search of how VPN works (generally). It would be good to get familiar with the concept, how does it work and so on.

   Second question: you might want to implement VPN at the router level in case you want to “protect” other devices that are connected to your router.
