On a side note, I find it weird that the page will load using https, but the DNS server lookup will not run.
DNS crypt or DNSSEC would be great. 1.1.1.1 supports either, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 supports DNSSEC, and I think 4.4.4.4 supports either.

You have no idea what a proprietary system is going to do. If you want to make sure, use open source systems (Firefox/Chromium on Linux (Debian or other community effort) rathern than Chrome).
They could technically, but most ISPs, if they do any DNS fiddling at all, they are very bad at it. They can tell you’re using an alternative DNS, but they can’t really do anything about it. Mine is currently attempting to hijack any HTTP traffic, the only reason i know is because i keep a honeypot setup outside of my firewall, everything behind my firewall is on a VPN and totally unaffected.
