  1. The desktop app is better. The app will protect you from a system level – so ALL traffic from the Desktop should be routed through it. Most desktop apps will also have a feature that will help protect you from IP/DNS leaks.

    The chrome extension will only route the traffic from the webpage you are visiting through the VPN. This is website level, not even browser level. Any other traffic on your computer will not use the VPN (Spotify, Microsoft, Firefox, Mail, etc).

  2. It depends on **who** make the Desktop VPN app or **who** make the Chrome Extension.

    If you can look at the source code (known as ‘Open Source’ or ‘free’ software), then you can see what the software does.
