Try doing TCP over port 80 and 443. It’s not the first option you what but it is usually doable on a lot of larger networks. These ports are generally open since they handle HTTP/HTTPS traffic. Also if you open the .ovpn file and find the server you’re connecting to you can open command prompt and do “ping (that address)” to get the IP address. If they’re not blocking the actual IP then your VPN will still connect using the IP if you out it in your ovpn file.
Self-hosting a VPN might be an option.
I’ve been there.
Try VPNs which offer to change between different ports.
For example, My Uni didn’t block UDP-53, all other ports wouldn’t work for me. I’ve tried many VPNs. Some offered cloaking techniques like obfuscation but it massively slowed down my connection. I’ve settled on PIA just to be fucked over a few months later by the IT staff(they blocked the only working port too,no idea how they came to know).
Also,download the concerned VPN Software on mobile network and then switch to your Uni network.
Use Tor?
Running over SSH worked for me when I was in school. Airvpn offers it.
Try Shadowsocks, you can setup server port as 443.
You could try Tor if you have a laptop or try the android or iOS version.
* [iOS ](https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/onion-browser/id519296448?mt=8)
* [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.torproject.android&hl=en_US)
* [Computer Mac, Windows or Linux](https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en#downloads)
Run your own vpn server on a vps. Set up a vpn that runs on port 443/tcp. Disguised as Web traffic and harder to block.
Digital ocean and pritunl is very easy to setup
To get to the vpn webpage trying navigating to page IP not the URL. You can also try hitting the vpn web page over port 8080. You can also try opening the url in TOR (but, blocking TOR traffic is pretty easy when you are using known entry/exit nodes).
You can also try pointing your DNS traffic at public DNS.
Perimeter firewalls have multiple ways of matching trafffic. They could be blocking your vpn via matching the destination port, app-id, blocking the cert they may be on the vpn gateway, the vpn phase 1 traffic might be hitting the url filtering policy.
To get the vpn tunnel up try hitting the IP of the gateway, rather than the URL. Try reaching out to the vpn provider and see if they can get you an unpublished gateway.
Just go for a lesser known proxy provider and try using a proxy rather than a vpn
My uni(Using Fortinet Firewall) also blocked vpn(PKI based)/tor/gaming etc websites. For VPN I tried port 80,53,443,1194 tcp/udp but it didn;t worked.
This worked:
Self-hosted VPN with static-keys.[(HOWTO)](https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/documentation/miscellaneous/78-static-key-mini-howto.html)
Buy VM/VPS. They are available as low as $5 pm on digitalocean, aws etc. Setup own VPN Server with static keys.
It works with me, may work for you too.
Set your DNS to Google’s at 8.8.8.8 and 8.4.4.8 and try using ports 80/443 again.
