Hi
Our office uses a hardware firewall VPN device – Fortigate 80E
Often, our remote staff complain the VPN disconnects randomly.
How is using this Fortigate hardware different from all those ‘online VPN services’?
Is it possible to use an ‘online VPN service’ to connect our remote users to our office domain?

Thanks!
I guess you mean the SSL (actually TLS) VPN feature of the FortiGate firewalls. I know that they have the feature to cut the connection after a certain time span when idling. At the beginning of the pandemic we extended this timer to over 8 hours. I don’t know the default value.
Maybe this can help: https://kb.fortinet.com/kb/documentLink.do?externalID=FD39435
Edit: Just a guess. Could of course also be an overloaded fortigate, bad network connection etc.
Fortigate is a gateway/firewall/VPN service built into a box installed on your office network. It is separate from a consumer VPN.
No, you cannot use a consumer VPN to connect to your office’s network.
