1. I still remember last time when I try to connect from one of my vps to another vps at same datacenter. I also use firewall rules at second vps and allow access from first vps public ip and it didn’t work. Then I go to second vps to check what ip from first vps trying to connect and it is totally different from its public ip. I assume this is your problem.

   When u asking any website what is ur address, it will show u public ip. But when you are talking to local lan machine, ur ip is what you get from ipconfig command.

   I am not sure what is ur network structure, but if your boss already can see the ip you are trying to connect, then just allow it and close case.

   However, ur telco will change ur IP address from time to time and allow ip is not the way as it is too troublesome and always need to allow different ip. Set up a VPN at your file server is the real solution and much more safer.

2. Are you connected to a vpn when you search “what’s my ip”? What vpn if so?

4. Maybe there is an ipv4 address on top of your other one? Ipleak.net check if you get dns leaks, check the isp and see if its even related to your isp, you might be connecting server sided, if its a direct connect vps to vps i wouldnt really see how but check

5. Have you tried /ipconfig in command prompt? That will list every network adapter and their ip address on your computer, both local and public.
